Every child comes into this world with vivid dreams that are locked deep inside their hearts waiting to
manifest like a beautiful rose that eventually blossoms with a floral scent and bright red colour. Every
human being is divinely created with a deep-sited potential waiting to be unleashed regardless of the
circumstances they are born into.
The starting point in realising your dream is “perceiving” the dream. To perceive is to develop the ‘why’,
the ‘what’, the ‘where’ and the ‘how to’ of the dream. At this stage, sometimes all you will see is just a
glimpse of vision. The finer details will unfold as you boldly walk the journey. Often, the ‘how’ unfolds as
you purposefully journey full of faith, determination and boldness. Those who have left an indelible
mark on this earth did not necessarily foresee what would happen generations after they were gone.
However as I mention in my book, The Dream!, “they perceived the dream regardless of whether they
would be around to witness the long-term impact of the dream.”
The dreamers who realise their God-given potential develop boldness and determination to overcome
inevitable obstacles. As it turns out, along the journey every dream will be tried and tested. Below is a
quotation from a familiar biblical text:
“Now it happened, when David and his men came to Ziklag, on the third day, that the Amalekites had
invaded the South and Ziklag, attacked Ziklag and burned it with fire, and had taken captive the women
and those who were there, from small to great; they did not kill anyone, but carried them away and went
away. So David and his men came to the city, and there it was burned with fire; and their wives, their
sons and their daughters had been taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him lifted
up their voices and wept, until they had no power to weep” 1 Samuel 30 v 1 – 4 NKJV
As we pursue our dreams, there will be setbacks, the majority of which are engineered by people and
circumstances opposed to our growth and development. In the text above, David lost everything that he
had laboured for up to that stage of his life. The natural reaction to this unfortunate situation was for
him to be depressed and feel sorry for himself. Is that not our reaction as well to setbacks and hurdles
that we encounter?
After weeping bitterly for a while, David rose up and strengthened himself in the Lord, his God. He
allowed himself to gain strength from God. If you dream with God, no matter how deep you fall, you will
always rise! David then enquired of the Lord, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?” He knew
he could not conquer in his own strength. When a dreamer does not allow a victim mentality to
overtake him or her but finds strengths in God, victory is guaranteed. After the enquiry, David received
assurance that he would not only overcome, but recover all that had been stolen. This prayerful servant
of God not only knew the source of his strength but knew God’s guiding and reassuring voice.
You may be surrounded by ample evidence of failure, under-achievement and misfortune. The guiding
and reassuring voice of God is saying to you, “Purse, overtake and recover”
