There is of course across the world the countdown towards the end of each year on December 31st. We are of course living in different time zones across the world. But nonetheless there will be millions of people who say goodbye to the current year and prepare to usher in the New Year.
For each of us the end of a year gives us time to look back. To look back and perhaps reflect on the good and the bad. Each of us will do so in our own ways.
As well we look towards the New Year. How will this New Year unfold? What is out there waiting for us? Answers that time itself will provide.
As we approach these moments in time what comes to mind are two words. Two words that with a calling awaits our response. Purge and Surge.
Going into a new year present us with a fresh start. A fresh start available to all of us. What potentially enhances a fresh start is the process of getting rid of stuff. In this case I’m going with Purge.
Purge. To commit to ridding ourselves of some of the things that are holding us back. Or things, thoughts and experiences that do nothing for us. To purge though is not going to be an easy process. The truth of the matter is that to purge often can call on us to move from what has made us comfortable and as well left us with a sense of safety. And yet if we are honest, we must admit that some of the very things that we hold onto in the end are doing nothing for us and even worst are dragging us down. There is a saying; sometimes less is more.
Surge. As we stand in the presence of a new year there is that moment of decision. Where do we go from here? What are the things that I need to do different in the New Year?
To surge is a call to action. A call that is beckoning us to move beyond the safe places and step into new arenas. Surge onto new territories. Surge in ways that show that what was is not to define us in our entirety, but surge to the extent that will redefine the who and what we are and propel us forward to new destinations.
Purge and Surge. Some will say the Ying and Yang. Some will say the new and old. But the challenge is this. To progress or to stand pat are choices that we must decide on. Our outcomes will affirm the decisions that we make.
