Success is the outcome of relentless preparation and unwavering determination. However, the period of waiting can be emotionally draining. I had been invited again to speak to the group of women and inspire them to continue to pursue their dreams. I prepared as if I were going to speak to an audience of thousands who would be rising and applauding as I gave the presentation. On the day I had a busy morning so when I got to the venue, I was expecting to see at least a group of women waiting in anticipation. When I got in the room, I met a woman who had attended the previous event. The lady who had invited me was not in the room. I wondered whether I had come to a wrong room, and they had asked the lady to wait for me but unfortunately, she was the audience for the day.
“I have been here since midday and no other lady has joined me. I have been looking outside hoping some people would come but they all have been calling and giving excuses because they cannot attend the meeting today.” My heart sank and I asked myself when my time will come, I think I have been ready to speak to bigger audiences. I smiled at her and said,” That’s fine let’s wait for a few minutes if no other women join us, we will go ahead with the meeting.” When the organizer eventually came through, I could see the disappointment in her face. The journey for preparation may be challenging but it is worth every effort. All people who have attained greatness started small but, in their execution, they did not focus on the moment they took it as preparation for the next challenge.
I started the meeting and realized that the lady who was the attendee could not understand English well, so the organizer had to translate to her in French. The meeting was remarkably effective because we turned it into a counselling session and the lady opened up and were able to address her personal concerns regarding her journey of pursuing her dreams. Battles won in the preparation room, prepare us to face giants in public. The waiting period is never a waste of time if we know our potential and trust in God. We really enjoyed that meeting that we had to stop because of time but would have continued. I learnt a lot as we shared and if it had been a bigger group I would have just presented and left.
As you wait for your time to flourish in your gift, preparation time is a time to grow as an individual. If necessary, get a mentor who has achieved what you aspire. No one woke up a celebrity. Do you want to be famous or effective? In my book “The dream!” I state, “Clarity of your dream will make the preparation period more fruitful and more bearable, because you wait with hope.”
