I am by nature an old school fan of classic movies. Some would say that I need to be more modern in my taste. I would counter and say that the newer is not necessarily the best. There is value in those things from our past.
In particular I remember a movie called The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. The essence of the movie is about three gentlemen in search of gold. Gold that they felt would be the solution to what they were looking for.
In a sense what I took from the movie was that the pursuit of the gold was for them what was most important. Perhaps then it would be the treasure chest that they longed for.
I find myself thinking about those two words: Treasure Chest. Treasure Chest in the sense of what exactly is a Treasure Chest. Better yet, what exactly is the Treasure Chest for each of us?
We are coming down the home stretch for 2023. Hard to believe that there are just a few weeks left in the year.
What then comprises our Treasure Chest? What are those things that are valuable to you?
For some of us our Treasure Chest might be the family and friends that are a part of lives. May we never take for granted those who are our loved ones. It is a cliché but so true. Tomorrow is not promised to any of us.
For some their Treasure Chest might be the fulfillment of dreams. Dreams that have propelled us forward daily in quest of achievement. To be able to say my dream has come true is a blessing to appreciate.
As we are moving towards the completion of yet another year there is a need to stop and take a breath. Stop and look back not just over the year itself but also look back over the course of your life journey.
What is your Treasure Chest? What is it that matters the most to you? This much is true. In the end those things that are material, we will not be taking with us into eternity. What then will be your Treasure Chest that speaks to your heart and when it’s all said and done truly reflects the essence of who each of us are?
