1 September is a day most people celebrate in South Africa. In some organizations they hold a special occasion where their members wear floral and colorful clothes, and they gather to celebrate the change of season. It is normally called spring day. People bring food to share some bring meat to braai which in some places they call it BBQ. The reason for celebration is the change for season. The change from Winter to Spring is celebrated because Winter is associated with pain of coldness and Spring freedom that comes with change of season. John C Maxwell states, “Change is inevitable, but growth is optional.”
In pursuit of our dreams in our business ventures those who succeed are sensitive to changes of seasons on their journey. Some changes like the change from Winter to Spring are clear but some changes are very subtle that it may not be easy to prepare for the change. I have pursued a few business ventures and sometimes it has not been as clear when it was time to change and let go. Entrepreneurs who succeed understand the times in their business ventures. Change can be internal which may be easier to manage because you have control then it can be external and beyond your control. If the vision of an organization is clear it is easy to identify change in season and craft a strategy to adapt to the change. Is the vision of your business venture clear and written down? Habakuk 2v2, “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets that He may run he who reads it.” Are the team members in your organization clear of the vision that if seasons change, they will be able to strategize and run with it.
Change does not always come with celebration like the way South Africans celebrate change from winter to Spring. Sometimes change come with pain, loss of assets or loss of human capital due to death or exiting the organization. Change that is caused by adversity can cause one to close the business. Change that is caused by adversity needs people who understand the times as the sons of Issachar who understood the times and knew what Isreal ought to do (1 Chronicles 12:32). The people in Africa experience Spring different times as those in United States of America. Everyone goes through different seasons though the experiences might be the same. Businesspeople who understand the times of the season they will be going through know that no season stays forever. They understand that somewhere another organization have gone through the season they are in and there is no harm in seeking help. Help to go through different seasons can be attained through mentorship. As a founder of your business do you have mentors you look up to help you to produce a strategy that befits the season?
