Recently I was observing some children coloring. Each child was given the freedom to draw whatever it was that came to their minds. The result was a collection of different images, colors, and outcomes.
Each child was not restricted from staying with the lines. Each child was not told that they had to use only certain colors. With the use of their imagination each child was then given wings to soar in directions that matched their enthusiasm.
I often wonder what it is like when we as the adults in this world as well remove potential barriers to our soaring.
Barriers that, if we are honest can come in many different ways. There were barriers that came out of cultural traditions. There were barriers that have passed down as such from generation to generation. Or there were barriers that we have put on our own selves.
Each of us can, if nothing else, take time to do a process of self-reflection.
How do each of us choose to come face to face with perceived barriers? Do we choose to take them head on? Do we choose to consider the road less traveled?
Our answers will impact on the direction that we go in. Our answers as well will impact not just our destiny but potentially as well the destiny that others may be following.
Actions that we take speak loudly. The reverberations send forth messages that are more than audible. Reverberations that convey messages to others that by virtue of our journey’s purpose and pursuit there is hope to be derived by our continued forward progress. Progress that can and will say to others that even despite, still we press on to the highest mark.
Soaring or not to soar, for each there is a choice. A choice which will find us on roads at times well-traveled or less traveled.
But nonetheless we, like the children of our youth, will choose to be untethered by potential obstacles, and instead allow our imaginations and yes-dreams to carry us beyond the lines of imagined boundaries and reach the higher peaks of our intended destinies.
