Workplaces responses to violence and harassment

IFC’s Respectful Workplaces Program seeks to enhance business value by addressing gender-based violence and harassment including customer and client aggression, workplace bullying and sexual harassment, domestic and sexual violence, and sexual exploitation and abuse connected to the workplace.

Do you need a facilitator or Coach on creating respectful workplace?

A respectful workplace is vital to employee wellness which increases the employee’s productivity.

The training is geared at enhancing the employees’ existing knowledge and skills in workplace violence and harassment, identifying risk factors and best practice corporate solutions to support private sector organisations to take proactive steps to effectively prevent and address instances of workplace violence and harassment.

Addressing gender equality and gender-based violence (GBV) is not only a social and moral imperative but also an economic need. Roughly one in three women worldwide have experienced either non-partner sexual violence or physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence. A recent World Bank Group report estimates the costs of intimate partner violence across five countries to be between 1.2 percent and 3.7 percent of GDP. GBV can impact business operations through workplace bullying and sexual harassment, employees experiencing domestic and sexual violence, and sexual exploitation and abuse connected to the workplace. Gender Based violence does not only affect women in the workplace there are men who are also victims or survivors. Gender based violence does not only happen at home but also at work. These impacts affect employee well-being and can lead to reduced productivity, increased absenteeism, and increased costs associated with employee turnover and security.

Session Objectives:

  1. Distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable workplace behaviours
  2. Understand the hidden biases that influence our decision-making including stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination.
  3. Recognise and address the effects of bullying and harassment and power dynamics on individuals and organisation

Benefits for your organisation

  1. Enhance employee morale and productivity
  2. Foster a culture of respect
  3. Demonstrate a commitment to gender equality and employee empowerment
  4. Reduce risks associated with workplace violence and harrassment
  5. Powerful ways leaders can create a respectful and productive workplace

  • Good afternoon Mrs. M. I have just finished reading your 2nd book. You know am convinced that both your books should be on prescribed readings for LO (Life Orientation) in schools at least at mission / Christian schools. Then in public schools, be recommended books and be at the libraries... When reading your first book I thought you did it once and it was a success. It is motivating to read you pursuing the dream to be a author and overcoming the obstacles. Am going back to search for where I wrote my dreams that I abandoned when life took a left turn 😊...
