The taxi drivers in Africa whose cars are popularly known as Combi’s are known for breaking the rules of the road. In the morning, as everyone will be rushing for the school run and work, they can overtake change lanes without allowing other drivers who will be following the rules of the road chance to move. Taxi drivers are known not to respect other drivers and break every rule to be in front. They are known to pass the red traffic lights and stop anywhere anyhow to pick their passengers. A driver, driving in the correct lane sometimes gets frustrated by the taxi driver because they can come in your lane without permission.

At the beginning of the year, you set your goals and knew exactly how you were moving in your lane until you got to the end and tick all boxes. You were prepared to follow all the rules and go through the process to achieve success. As months passed you realized that there were others who were also pursuing their goals but were not prepared to follow the rules or go through the process. Sometimes those who come ahead of you in your lane may look like they will get to the destination sooner and are doing wonderful things. If you focus on the people who are not keeping in their lane it is easy to be disrupted. As you become a better driver you learn not to be angered by the taxi driver because you know where you are going and you do not allow others who leave their lane to go in front of you to change your focus. The traffic policeman always looks out for the taxi drivers and sometimes when they overtake you they are stopped by the traffic officers, and you then overtake them because you will be in your lane and observing the rules.

When dealing with taxi drivers in Africa you understand that you must be patient with them because as much as they may come in your lane, they will soon leave it and go to the next lane as they maneuver their way to their destination. If your goals are clear and you are following the process as much as sometimes you feel pressured by others who get in your lane and they seem to be ahead of you remain in your lane.

As the year ends, it might feel as if you did not achieve much but success is not measured by whoever gets in your lane’s success it is measured against your goals. Success is measured by how much you have driven toward your destination. If you look in the view mirror and see a taxi coming behind, speeding to overtake, you do not increase your speed too unless you end up causing road rage, you slow down allow them to overtake you. Normally you overtake the taxis as they stop to fetch their passengers. The fact that someone has overtaken you does not mean they will always be ahead of you. We all get to the destination in our time if we remain in our lane.

Howard Cossel states, “The ultimate victory in competition is derived from the inner satisfaction of knowing that you have done your best.”
